Songfacts®:

  • Here, Aurora details a relationship that is heading to disaster. Though at times her lover is "soft like an angel," in other instances he is cold and abusive toward her. Aurora recognized straight away she'd fallen for the wrong person and their romance would be a dangerous thing, but is willing to take the risk.

"There's a lot of beauty in this world. And there's a lot of ugly. I was surprised to learn how often the ugly is disguised as beauty. How often poison is disguised as wine. And life disguised as death," said Aurora. "And when we learn that what we thought was good for us, is in fact bad for us – even then we tend to go return to it. Because at least it's familiar. And all we ever dream about is home. Seductive, yet destructive. A dangerous thing indeed."
  • Aurora penned the song with Norwegian songwriter and record producer Martin Sjølie. A frequent Sigrid collaborator, Sjølie's credits with the singer-songwriter include "Don't Kill My Vibe" and "Strangers" and "Sucker Punch. He previously worked with Aurora on her 2018 track, "Forgotten Love."
  • Aurora co-produced "A Dangerous Thing" with her go-to producer Magnus Skylstad. He has worked with Aurora since 2014 and also performs as drummer, percussionist, and occasional backing vocalist for her live band.
  • Aurora recorded the song for her third album, The Gods We Can Touch. "A Dangerous Thing" follows "A Temporary High" on the tracklisting. This is because "A Temporary High" ends with a guitar," Aurora explained to Apple Music. "And I wanted to jump into a guitar pattern right after."
