  • The opening track and title song of Awolnation's second album, mainman Aaron Bruno told Radio.com that "Run" was an easy tune to pen. "It just came out," he said. "It was exciting to write as well."

"At that point, I'm not exactly sure where I was in the process of the record, but I remember thinking right when I wrote the opening riff that this is how I want the record to start, this is how I want the show to start," Bruno continued. "This will be the heartbeat and pulse of the whole album."
  • Awolnation released an alternative version of the song titled "Run (Beautiful Things)." The lyrics on this new interpretation change from "I am a human being. Capable of doing terrible things" to "I am a human being. Capable of doing beautiful things."

Aaron Bruno explained, "I think that everyone can relate to negative feelings and that realization of the dark side to humanity, which unfortunately we see too much of around us at times. But then there's the other side we find in beauty, positivity and love that is ultimately more powerful. I started to change the lyric during our live shows and it was natural to want to record this new version of the song."
  • "Run" wasn't a hit, but it has stuck around Awolnation's setlists over the years. The group's best-known song is their first single, "Sail," released in 2010. That's the only song from the group that most listeners will recognize, but they did build a solid following and Aaron Bruno was able to keep the group alive with shifting lineups.
