  • Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe is a Nigerian singer who records under the name Ayra Starr. She started her career in the fashion industry with Quove Model Management before shifting her focus to music. When Starr released her first original song on Instagram in December 2019, it caught the attention of renowned Nigerian record executive Don Jazzy, who signed her with Mavin Records. Released in August 2021, her debut studio album, 19 & Dangerous, contains an eclectic mix of African and western influences.

This song, released on September 16, 2022, is the lead single from the deluxe version of 19 & Dangerous.
  • "Rush" touches on various themes, including Starr flexing about her wealth, the importance of working hard to maintain her status, and the need to steer clear of negative vibes from her adversaries. "'Rush' is really a description of where I am at the moment - a place of reflection, zeal and gratitude," Starr explained. "E dey rush well well - all that I've dreamt of is happening and I'm in the middle of it all, living my dream and it can only get better!"
  • Starr namechecks the famous Nigerian dancer Poco Lee on the hook.

Me no get the time for the hate and the bad energy
Got my mind on my money
Make you dance like Poco Lee

Poco Lee is a Nigerian dancer who became famous after a video of him dancing at a Lagos State University event went viral online. Starr compares her ability to make someone dance to her music with the influence of Poco Lee.
  • When "Rush " topped Nigeria's Top 100, Starr became the first woman to record multiple #1 entries in Nigeria and only the second artist to have multiple #1 songs off a debut album. (19 & Dangerous' lead single, "Bloody Samaritan," spent a week at the summit in 2021).
  • The song became an international hit in February 2023 after it went viral on TikTok.
