Songfacts®:

  • In a review published in the September 29, 1984 issue of New Musical Express, Cynthia Rose refers to "Knife" as "a nine-minute mini-masterwork," which is an apt description of this Roddy Frame composition. It is difficult to believe Frame was barely 20 years old when this song - and album - was recorded. It was produced by Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits fame.

The track is subdued throughout, as much keyboard as guitar based, and if you close your eyes you can just about imagine the knife ripping open the sky and allowing the rain to pour in. >>>
