Songfacts®:

  • Nick Carter co-wrote this song with his Backstreet colleagues Kevin Richardson and Howie Dorough as well as Dan Muckala and Bryan Shackle. Carter told Radio.com that it contains his favorite lyric on In A World Like This. "I love sci-fi. I love space," he said. "I was able to really capture that with the song 'Make Believe.' I remember I came up with the title 'Make Believe.' Most people want to leave this world and go somewhere else for a little while, whether it's a video game or a song. One of the lyrics is, 'If we can only make believe, you and me together. We set our course to live or die across the universe. I'd be by your side.' I feel like you could just jump into a spaceship and take off."
