  • The Bangles, suffering from burnout and creative differences, broke up in 1989 at the peak of their powers. It was Susanna Hoffs who called it off, telling the other members she was going solo. It was Hoffs who brought the band back together, reuniting them to record this song for the film Austin Powers 2, The Spy Who Shagged Me. The connection was Jay Roach, who directed the movie - he and Hoffs got married in 1993.
  • The song plays near the end of Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me when Heather Graham's character, Felicity Shagwell, pushes a button to activate a party. Austin does indeed get the girl. Vicki Peterson of the Bangles described the song as "a fun little pop record."
  • The Bangles were a good choice for a '60s throwback song, having been part of the Los Angeles "Paisley Underground" scene in the early '80s, where much of the music was inspired by '60 bands like The Beatles and The Mamas & the Papas.
  • The song was written by band members Susanna Hoffs, Vicki Peterson and Debbi Peterson. All four members sing the vocals, keeping it very egalitarian to avoid the problems that led to their breakup.
  • When the Bangles wrote this song, the scene in the film had already been cut to a Rolling Stones song that was used as a placeholder. "We were able to grab the beats per minute of the song and that made it easier," Vicki Peterson told Songfacts. "They had already shot with people dancing to this song, so we wanted it to work. So, we did write that song specifically for that scene."
