Songfacts®:

  • According to the December 1996 issue of the fanzine Nova Lepidoptera, "Brother Thrush," the band's second single (released in June 1969 and backed by "Poor Wages"), was the first of many such songs written by lead guitarist John Lees as a metaphor to describe the human condition, here predicting the ultimate triumph of nature over the works of man. That may be true, but some people might think both the concept and the song itself silly.

The lyrics were published in the September issue the same year, where words and music were credited to the band; the entire song was published by Initial Music in 1969. >>>
