Songfacts®:

  • The second single from Wild World, this slice of brooding pop first premiered on Beats 1 on July 27, 2016 and was released on iTunes on two days later. Frontman Dan Smith told NME regarding the track:

"This was one of the last tunes we made for the album and it's one of our favorites. It was fun to nod towards a lot of the music we love when putting together the beats and with the really heavy 808 [Roland drum machine] bass line that comes out of nowhere."
  • The sample at the beginning of the track is an extract from a 1971 US National Institute of Mental Health short film titled Social Seminar: Changing. It focuses on a man who changes his ways for a happier family life only to become ostracised as a hippy by friends and co-workers.

  • Deborah Atianne Wilson from Boulder ColoradoGIVING CREDIT TO WOMAN"S VOICE AT THE BEGINNING: Life is wild...Would love to give credit to Elin Terry Friend who is the woman at the beginning of this song who is speaking. This audio is taken from a counterculture film titled "Changing" a short film done of my family included in a series of films entitled "The Social Seminar" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Social_Seminar ~ Terry and her husband who are in the film became good friends of my parents after my brother and I met their daughter in our neighborhood. These films were shown all over the country for educational purposes. I am so thankful to my parents for saying yes to doing this film. What a perfect example of what we choose to do ripples out far beyond anything we can imagine. I would love to know how this piece of film history came to be part of this song. Peace
