Songfacts®:

  • This is a track from The Bride, a concept album by Bat for Lashes (Natasha Khan) about a woman experiencing a tragedy on her wedding day, after which she comes to understand the merit of her own self-sufficiency. The press release states that the record, "follows the story of a woman whose fiancé has been killed in a crash on the way to the church for their wedding. The Bride flees the scene to take the honeymoon trip alone, resulting in a dark meditation on love, loss, grief, and celebration."
  • The record is linked to a short film I Do, which was written and directed by the singer. "The arc of a character to me is most interesting when it's intercepted by something that prevents that character from fulfilling their role," Khan told MTV News. "I thought, if a bride doesn't have a groom, how will she go on her honeymoon? Will she have to go on her own, and who will she fall in love with - herself?"
  • Did you know the origins of the word honeymoon lie in ancient Babylonia, when the bride's father would give his son-in-law all the mead he could drink? Mead is a honey beer, and since the Babylonian calendar was lunar, this period was called the "honey month." Here are some more honeymoon fun facts from The Encyclopedia of Trivia:

In the Old Testament, a newly married couple was encouraged to spend a year-long honeymoon at the homes of their families. "For one year he (a recently married man) is to be free to stay at home and bring happiness to the wife he has married." Deuteronomy 24:5.

Root Beer began as an herbal tea made of various roots, berries, and herbs for cough and mouth sores. It was created by pharmacist Charles E. Hires on his honeymoon.

There were 13 newlywed couples celebrating their honeymoon on the Titanic.

Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald were married in New York's St. Patrick's Cathedral. They honeymooned at the Biltmore Hotel in New York until asked to leave because of their behaviour.

John Lennon and Yoko Ono held their first Bed-In for Peace at the Amsterdam Hilton Hotel during their honeymoon between March 25- 31 1969.

The world’s longest honeymoon, taken by Mike and Anne Howard, from New York clocked up six continents, 33 countries and 302 places. It took 675 days.
  • This features guitar by Lewis & Clarke, the performing name of singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Lou Rogai. Lewis & Clarke toured as a duo with cellist Eve Miller in 2007, supporting Bat For Lashes. Khan told Uncut magazine: "I've known Lou for eight years, we're really old friends – he and Eve Miller played with Rachel's, who I loved when I was at uni. I thought of him as someone that's really textural."
