  • B.B.King married Martha Denton in 1946, writing the song "Miss Martha King" for her. After his breakthrough he began touring incessantly, something that continued well into his old age, but the peripatetic lifestyle is not conducive to stable relationships, which is why so many touring musicians have two or even several divorces behind them.

    Martha divorced King in 1952, and he wrote "Woke Up This Morning..." from the heart. Recorded with his band on the RPM label, the single was actually credited to King-Taub, but this individual did not exist, rather the name was added to claim a share of the royalties on this and on the songs of many other artists. Taub was the maiden name of the mother of the Bihari brothers, who launched RPM Records in the early 1950s, one of at least three (unrelated record labels) to bear that name.
