Songfacts®:

  • "Glue Song" is a soft and sweet romantic ballad where Beabadoobee expresses the joy of discovering a special person and developing a strong bond with them.

Over a laid-back drumbeat, smooth strings and whimsical trumpet, Bea sings of the exhilarating feeling of falling head in heels in love. Using glue as a metaphor for love, she paints a picture of two people who have grown deeply attached to one another, becoming inseparable in a positive and uplifting way.
  • Bea penned the heartfelt "Glue Song" from the back seat of cars and in transit while touring throughout Asia and Australia. As the first love song she's written for her new partner, photographer Jacob Erland, the track holds a special place in her heart. In the past, Bea's songwriting has often leaned towards melancholic themes, even if the sound didn't necessarily reflect it. However, with "Glue Song," she shares her happiness and positive state of mind, a fresh experience for her.

Together with her guitarist and producer Jacob Bigden, they recorded the song in his home studio, incorporating trumpet and string arrangements to round out the track.
  • Beabadoobee performed "Glue Song" for the first time live during her concert in Brooklyn, New York, on October 28, 2022, during her Beatopia Tour. She released it as a single on February 14, 2023 – Valentine's Day.
  • Jacob Erland and Beabadoobee co-directed the video. Filmed over four days in the Philippines, the docu-style visual features Bea's close friends and family, showcasing a series of heartfelt moments in a fly-on-the-wall montage. "This song feels really personal and I went to my hometown in Ilo Ilo to film the music video," she said. "It's where I was born and so that also added another personal touch to the song."
  • Being "stuck to someone like glue" isn't groundbreaking territory for song lyrics. For instance, country duo Sugarland's "Stuck Like Glue" reached #17 on the US Hot 100 in 2010 and a young Justin Bieber sang of being "stuck like crazy glue" on 2013's "Hold Tight."
  • Beabadoobee released a new version of "Glue Song" with a new verse by Clairo on April 20, 2023. The pair have been close friends since touring together in 2019 after the release of Clairo's first album, Metal Heart.
