Songfacts®:

  • This debut release by English rock band Beady Eye was released on November 10, 2010, as a free download, and was also made available as a limited release single on 7" vinyl.
  • The song was penned by the three surviving members of Oasis after Noel Gallagher's departure - his brother Liam, Gem Archer and Andy Bell.
  • Liam described the song in an interview with NME: "It got everybody up off the sofa and jumping around like a bunch of f---ing monkeys. That's what we're after man."
  • Gem Archer told Mojo magazine how Liam was inspired by various '50s and '60s acts for this song. Said the Beady Eye guitarist: "With Bring The Light, Liam had been doing some Pretty Green stuff in Italy and all of a sudden I got a load of texts from him saying, I want to do Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, that kind of feel and I want to do it right.' And then it just happened immediately. Once we got into the recording he said, 'I want to have some girl backing singers, like an Ike and Tina Turner record.' I was saying, I can't get my head around it but it sounds great. So, I think his head's just exploded."
  • Archer told the NME why this song was chosen as the world's introduction to Beady Eye: "I think it came from while we were making the album, we couldn't stop ourselves from playing the tunes to our mates late at night after we've been out or whatever. And if you had your mates round late at night and you played them a few tunes, 'Bring The Light' was always the one that would kind of take off."
  • The song was recorded live - much of Different Gear Still Speeding was done live.
  • Different Gear Still Speeding was named after an off-the-cuff Liam quip.
