Album: Hot Sauce Committee Part Two (2011)

Songfacts®:

  • This highly distorted track is Beastie Boys attempt at a "new wave rap song." Ad-Rock explained in the Beastie Boys Book: "That may not be so evident in the end result, but that was the goal going in." Influences include Elvis Costello, Devo, Blondie, B-52s and Adam And The Ants.
  • "OK" is part of the last Beastie Boys album, Hot Sauce Committee Part Two. By this time, they had graduated from prank calling Carvel to claiming their songs used samples that didn't exist. They crafted the tracks to sound like they were sampled, when they actually were real bits they played themselves. The liner notes say "OK" samples "Wear Art for Thou" by Plastic Revolution, a band they made up.

Ever since their second album, Paul's Boutique, Beastie fans have been on the hunt for the samples embedded in the songs, which are often pretty obscure. They thought it would be fun to send fans looking for these songs that didn't exist. When doing press for the album, they talked about how they found some very deep cuts to sample, hoping their crate-digging fans would take up the challenge. They didn't reveal the ruse until years later.
