  • This bass-heavy track was released as the first single from Beck's tenth studio album. The funky rocker featuring Beck's falsetto is a stark departure from the singer's previous long-player, the folk-leaning Morning Phase. During an interview with the radio station Alt 98.7 in Los Angeles, Beck said "Dreams" and its accompanying album is, "probably the opposite [of Morning Phase]. I was really trying to make something that would be good to play live. It started as kind of this heavy garage-rock kind of thing, and it became much more dance or some other kind of hybrid. It's just kind of this raw energy thing, and this has a beat as well."
  • The song was co-produced by Greg Kurstin, who has also worked with the likes of Pink ("Try"), Kelly Clarkson ("What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger)") and Sia ("Chandelier").
  • "Dreams" climbed to #1 on Billboard's Adult Alternative Songs in its second week on the chart. The track is the first to surge to the top of the tally in just a fortnight since Dave Matthews Band's "Funny The Way it Is" did so in 2009.
