Songfacts®:

  • This is the closing track of Beck's Colors disc. He told UK newspaper The Sun that the song embodies the album, which is about being comfortable with yourself.

"A lot of this record is about letting go and learning to be yourself again and finding that openness, that easy natural state, whatever that is," he explained.

"Fix Me was in a big group of songs and they just kept getting whittled down," Beck added. "There was something about that one that stayed. It's about longing and wanting to be able to be yourself."
  • Beck's composer father, David Campbell, reprised his role on several other of his son's albums in handling this song's string arrangements. Other records that Campbell has worked on include Adele's 21, Justin Timberlake's Futuresex/Lovesounds, Michael Jackson's Invincible and Beyoncé's B'Day.
  • The dog-filled video was directed by Brook Linder and shot in Yamagata, Japan. The clip features a little girl called Mame and her three poodles, Riku, Gaku and Qoo. The pooches and their owner became social media celebrities after Mame posted their exploits on Instagram. The clip was released in partnership with American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Brook Linder said in a statement: "There's something really special happening in the mountains of Yamagata, and we were lucky enough to enter Mame's world for two afternoons in November. That home is heaven on Earth."
