  • Here, Beck sings about emerging from a "panic cycle." When pressed by NME to elaborate on this period of darkness, Beck replied, "I did have some challenges and some struggles, just like anybody has. The challenges of life."

"When you make music for a lot of years," he continued. "there's sort of an expectation that you're going to go away. In popular music it's built in for people to come and go. There are points where you wonder if you're overstaying your welcome. It's not even insecurity; it's trying to be real with yourself. Maybe it's a common thing for musicians – at some point you wonder, do you get out of the way? When's the point when somebody taps you on the shoulder and goes, 'It's time to go home'?"
  • The song features backing vocals from Feist. Beck previously collaborated with the Canadian singer-songwriter when he remixed her Metals track "How Come You Never Go There."

  • AnonymousI could be wrong, but I think this song is about him leaving Scientology. The lyrics make sense to me. "A panic cycle, sentimental, feel it out until you know it isn't meant for you" - He is panicking about leaving because they are a very controlling cult, and his entire family is wrapped up in it. It's terrifying trying to leave Scientology. Sentimental, because, again, his wife and entire family are Scientologists, so it is emotionally difficult making this decision. "Feel it out until you know it isn't meant for you," He probably tried all his life to be a "good Scientologist" but had conflicts in his head about it, perhaps. Then one day, he decides it isn't meant for him, so he leaves. He's so free! "I'm so free from you," meaning, he's so free from Scientology. It's a super joyous song, and has a rebellious, yet celebratory vibe. I love it. Again, I could be wrong about this. Perhaps he wrote it about being free from something else entirely.
