  • Becky G was born Rebbeca Marie Gomez in Inglewood, California. With the help of the production duo The Jam, she began posting covers of popular songs to YouTube starting in 2011. Her take on "Otis," from the Kanye West/Jay-Z album Watch The Throne, earned her a meeting with renowned pop producer Dr. Luke (Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry), who signed the teenage singer to his Kemosabe Records label, an imprint of RCA Records, as an artist and songwriter. In 2013, she issued "Becky From The Block," a riff on J Lo's signature hit "Jenny From The Block." The following year, she broke through to the mainstream with the single "Shower," which became her first Top 20 entry on the Billboard Hot 100.
  • Becky G's first foray into the entertainment industry was out of necessity because her family was struggling financially. As a child, she did commercials and voice-over work to help pay the bills, but at the ripe old age of 9, she suffered a "mid-life crisis" and decided to pursue a music career. In 2009, she joined the girl group G.L.A.M. and later started a duo with fellow member Cristal G. Around this time, she started the YouTube account that would make her famous.
  • Becky G's classmates were not supportive of the budding entertainer and wrongfully assumed her family was wealthy because she was doing commercials for the Disney Channel and Nickelodeon. After several bullying incidents, she switched to homeschooling.
  • Prior to her own debut, Becky G co-wrote the hit songs "Oath" by Cher Lloyd and "Wish U Were Here" by Cody Simpson, which both featured her as a guest rapper.
  • Although the pop-driven single "Shower" brought Becky G fame, the Mexican-American songstress saw nothing of herself in it. She had more in common with "Can't Get Enough," a Spanglish dance single featuring Pitbull that smashed the US Latin Airplay chart before "Shower" launched. When her ensuing pop singles fizzled, she decided to tap into her roots and refashion her sound to fit the Latin Music market. She issued her first entirely Spanish-language single, "Sola," followed by "Mangu," in 2016. That same year, she was named Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist at the Latin American Music Awards.
  • Becky G made her feature film debut playing Trini the Yellow Ranger in the 2017 movie Power Rangers. It turned out to be a groundbreaking role as Trini, a young woman struggling with her sexual orientation, became the first LGBT protagonist in a major superhero film.
  • Becky G also guest-starred in two episodes in season 2 of Empire, a TV series about the ongoing drama at a hip-hop entertainment company. She portrayed Valentina Galinda, the lead singer of a girl group who hooks up with Hakeem Lyon, the problematic son of Empire's CEO. Becky G contributed two songs to the show's soundtrack: "Do It" and "New New."
  • A case of mistaken identity landed Becky G in hot water at a Fifth Harmony concert in Argentina in 2017. When group member Dinah Jane suffered a wardrobe malfunction onstage, Becky (the group's opening act) attempted to come to the rescue with a flag to cover up her friend, but security mistook her for an overzealous fan and pulled her away from the stage.
  • Becky G signed on as a CoverGirl model in 2014. It was an honest endorsement from the singer, who grew up using the affordable makeup brand alongside the other women in her working-class family. She launched her own vegan-friendly makeup line, Treslúce Beauty, in 2022.
  • When Buzzfeed asked the singer about her favorite TV show, she said she's obsessed with true-crime documentaries.
  • In 2022, she announced her engagement to professional soccer player Sebastian Lletget, whom she started dating in 2016. The singer told Variety that she made the first move by sliding into his DMs.
