• Benson Boone's story isn't your typical pop star origin. Hailing from a small town in Washington, this former jock never considered singing until a high school twist of fate.
  
  Growing up in a Mormon household with four sisters, his early life revolved more around sports than serenades. This all changed when a band member dropped out before a school competition, leaving Boone, the non-singing jock, as his last-minute replacement. The impromptu performance awoke a passion for music that would change everything.
  
  "It's just like I unlocked something I didn't know I had," he mused to MTV. "And I stopped, like, halfway through the first verse and just looked around, and I was so shocked that I had just sang... It was, like, the best feeling of my life."
• While Boone eventually found his voice (literally!), his path wasn't completely linear. He even spent a semester at Brigham Young University, the Mormon university, before music's siren song proved too strong.
• In 2021, Benson Boone caught the eye of a talent scout for American Idol. This wasn't a coincidence. Boone, a singer-songwriter with a growing fanbase online, perfectly fit the mold of a successful contestant on the show. Idol, known for its string of winners who were young, male guitarists (affectionately nicknamed "WGWG" by longtime fans), saw potential in Boone's talent and charisma.
  
  Heaping praise on the singer following his first audition, judge Katy Perry gushed to Boone: "I see you winning American Idol if you want."
• Boone made Idol's Top 24 contestants before withdrawing. "Everybody on the show wanted to [make] music; they had been waiting for this moment their whole lives. And I did not feel that way," Boone shared with Young Post. "I didn't want to get locked into something I was unsure about."
• Boone's intimate and diaristic pop songs caught the eye of Imagine Dragons' frontman Dan Reynolds. This led to Boone signing with Reynolds' record label, Night Street Records, a subsidiary of Warner Records. "He reached out to me, just over Instagram, and said he loves my vibe and my voice, and he would love to work with me," Boone told ABC Audio. "I had never written any of my own music, so I flew out to Vegas for like three days to work with him."
  
  "At the end of that, he said he really liked working with me and he really liked my personality, and so I literally packed up and moved to Vegas the next day. It was crazy! But yeah, he, like, has been my mentor through all of this."
• Boone's signing to Night Street Records was announced on October 15, 2021, alongside the release of his first single, "Ghost Town," which charted in over a dozen countries. This was followed by successful singles like "In The Stars" and "Beautiful Things."
• Boone's religious background is a common thread he shares with Dan Reynolds. Both were raised Mormon, and both found success outside the traditional Brigham Young University path (Reynolds was actually kicked out of BYU around the same time he formed Imagine Dragons).
• Boone has a passion for rollerblading. His TikTok is filled with impressive clips showcasing his tricks and flips on wheels.
• His high-energy performances aren't always planned. At the 2025 Grammys, Boone did a backflip off a grand piano completely on impulse. Boone wasn't even wearing proper shoes for it! His thought process? There wasn't one - he just felt like doing it in the moment.
