Songfacts®:

  • Beyoncé became a mother for the first time on January 7, 2012 when she gave birth to Blue Ivy Carter, at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York. This song finds the proud mom singing about being in love with her daughter forever.
  • In something of a coup, Beyoncé managed to get a guest performance from Blue Ivy herself, as we hear the toddler's giggles close the song. A few days after she was born, Bey and Jay-Z's little girl featured on her father's tribute song, "Glory." The tune made history as Blue became the youngest artist to ever a to feature on a Billboard chart when it peaked at #63 on R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.
  • Beyoncé opened up about the message on her self-titled album and what makes her happy: "My message behind the album was finding beauty in imperfection," the R&B mom explained. "At the end of the day, when you go through all of these things… Is it worth it?"

"Nothing feels like my child saying, 'Mommy!'" she added. "Nothing feels like when I look my husband in the eye. Nothing feels like when I'm respected, when I get on the stage and I see I'm changing people's lives. Those are the things that matter. And at this point in my life, that's what I'm striving for. Growth, love, happiness, fun. Enjoy your life. It's short. That's the message."
  • The accompanying video finds the diva-licious mom strolling the bright streets and sandy beaches of Brazil with Blue in her arms. Beyoncé co-directed the clip.
