Songfacts®:

  • Dangerous in Love was Beyoncé's (known then as the girl in the middle from Destiny's Child) debut solo album. She included this tribute to her father, Matthew Knowles, who co-executive produced the album alongside her. The song is an account of Beyoncé wanting her future husband and child to possess qualities similar to her daddy's. She told MTV News of her father: "That loyalty and that strength that he has, those certain qualities I just want in all the people around me."
  • Beyoncé did not originally intend to include the track on Dangerous in Love, having thought its lyrics would make her appear immature. The singer eventually decided her fans should hear the tune, as it reflected her life at a transitional moment, but as a hidden track. "I put it last," she told Time magazine. "They can find it if they want. I think it's a beautiful song, but it's really personal, and people don't want to hear that all the time. Anybody who wants to skip it, I'm not mad at them."
