Songfacts®:

  • Bianca Miquela Landrau is a Boston-born rapper of Puerto Rican and Italian descent who records under the name of Bia. After being discovered by rapper Fam-lay, he introduced her to Pharrell Williams, who signed Bia to his I Am Other music label.

Bia co-wrote Camila Cabello's 2018 single "Sangria Wine" and featured on Russ' 2019 hit song "Best on Earth" before signing a new record deal with Epic Records in 2020. This song is from For Certain, her debut EP with her new label.
  • Here, Bia boasts about how the money she's making enables her to look good in the best designer garb. She discussed her motivation for writing the track in a Genius video:

"With this song I really feel like wealth is in the mind. I didn't want people to think however much money you have today is how much you're going to have tomorrow. You just have to go and get it. However much money you want to have is how much money you can have and that's what I want the song to do for people to put them in their bag."
  • US producer Romano created the beat with BeatGodz and London Jae. Romano has also worked with August Alsina ("Entanglements") and Chris Brown ("Indigo").
  • The song featured in popular TikTok videos posted by various celebrities, including Cardi B, Lizzo, Kendall Jenner and Chelsea Handler. After "Whole Lotta Money" went viral on the social media platform, it peaked at #3 on the Hot 100's bubbling under chart.
  • Nicki Minaj jumped on the remix, taking the opportunity to flex her huge wealth. Thanks to the additional exposure from the hip-hop superstar's contribution, the updated version climbed into the Top 20 of the Hot 100.
  • Minaj has history with contributing to remixes of buzzing songs by burgeoning artists. In 2020 her verse for the remix of Sada Baby's "Whole Lotta Choppas" gave the Detroit rapper his first Hot 100 top 40 hit.
