Songfacts®:

  • Bic Runga was a babe-in-arms when Elton John released "Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word." Her own difficult-to-phrase apology hit the airwaves in 1999. Although owing nothing to the John/Taupin composition, it says the same thing in different words, at a faster tempo, and with some clever imagery and impressive axe work.
  • Running to nearly three and a half minutes, "Sorry" was released on Columbia as a CD single with at least three different listings.
  • In an interview with Bob Gajarsky, Runga said of this song: "The word sorry is not one that I have mastered; it was not a word I often heard in my household."

She added: "My mother is of the attitude that the word doesn't make things better. If you do something you have to apologize for, why did you do it in the first place?" >>>
