Songfacts®:

  • "Lost In This Moment" is sung from the perspective of a groom on his wedding day. The verses describe his elated feelings as his beautiful bride walks down the aisle and they exchange their vows. The chorus celebrates the joyous event as the groom finds himself "lost in this moment with you."
  • John Rich wrote the wedding ballad with up-and-coming Nashville hitmaker Rodney Clawson and singer-songwriter Keith Anderson.

Clawson was Rich's junior high basketball coach. After Rich's former band, Lonestar, got a record deal, Rich advised him to start visiting Nashville. Through the encouragement of his former student, Clawson signed his publishing contract in 2000. Clawson has since written numerous hit songs for country music artists, including George Strait's "I Saw God Today," Luke Bryan's "Drunk On You," and Florida Georgia Line's "Dirt."
  • Rich came up with the idea of a wedding song and its melody. Then he started writing it with Anderson. Both were bachelors at the time but had observed many nuptials as wedding singers. "We were talking about growing up poor in small towns, and how many weddings we had sang at," Anderson recalled to The Tennessean. "When you're the wedding singer, you're on the stage and you have a different perspective of what's happening. Everybody else is in the congregation looking at the back of the heads of the bride and the groom and all the friends. And we're right there right next to them, getting to see all the reactions. So your emotions and your senses are on high alert."
  • Rich and Anderson wrote the first verse and most of the chorus that first night. They knew they were onto something good, so it surprised Anderson when Rich suggested his former high school basketball coach join them to finish it. "I'm thinking, 'John, we have a two-person song right here, and it's a smash hit. And you're gonna bring in your high school basketball coach?'" recalled Anderson. "I'm literally thinking, 'You are crazy.'"
  • Big & Rich released "Lost In This Moment" as the first single from Between Raising Hell and Amazing Grace on February 19, 2007. It climbed to the top of the Country chart in July 2007, becoming the duo's first and only #1 hit. A remixed version received airplay on Adult Contemporary radio and reached #12 on the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart.
  • Anderson included his own version of the song for his 2008 album C'mon!
  • Big & Rich demoed "Lost In The Moment" when they cut their first album in 2004, and Anderson did the same in 2005. Neither of them put it on their record and it sat on the pile for two or three years before both recorded it separately.
  • Clawson sang "Lost In This Moment" at his own wedding when he married fellow songwriter Nicolle Galyon on October 13, 2007.
