Songfacts®:

  • This Da Internz produced stripper anthem was released as the third single from American Hip-Hop artist Big Sean's debut album, Finally Famous. It was sent to urban radio formats on September 20, 2011.
  • The official remix of the song features Nicki Minaj and was made available for free download on her website.
  • The song is based around a sample of MC Hammer's "U Can't Touch This," but it is utilized in a completely different fashion to the original more PG-rated 1990 hit tune. Here's how The Village Voice reviewed Big Sean's cut. "(He) took his microphone and turned it into an extension of his phallus, waving it down there like a gleeful toddler as the track imbued new meaning to MC Hammer's signature phrase 'Hammer Time.'"
  • The song's music video was directed by Mike Watson and Mike Waxx and lives up to the song's title by showing plenty of booty, including that of one Ms. Nicki Minaj. Detroit native Big Sean told MTV News both the song and its promo were influenced by his home city. "A lot of people think 'A$$' is just some funny stuff, but that's really a Detroit-sounding music... that was one of the reasons why I put it on my album; people in Detroit know that's, like, the essence of Detroit music," he explained. "I didn't want to limit the song, I didn't want to limit the video, so, [there's] definitely a lot of girls, definitely a lot of ass, but it's in a tasteful way; still kept it artistic."
