Songfacts®:

  • "UFOF" is a twisting lullaby in which Big Thief frontwoman Adrianne Lenker imagines herself being visited by an alien:

    I imagine you
    Taking me outta here.
However by the end the alien leaves her behind
Just like a bad dream you'll disappear

"There's this frightening idea of the unknown," Lemker said of the song's cosmic message to Uncut magazine, "but I like the idea of looking right at it, asking questions and making friends with it, and accepting ( it). It works both in a cosmic sense but also in a way of embracing the alien parts of ourselves, and dissolving otherness. There are little lines, borders, we've created on earth that are separating us, and I think a lot of the hostility in conflict comes from this perception that we are separate from each other... But we can't really enjoy the Earth or kill or injure other people without wounding ourselves."

She added: "I also think of the title in the literal sense, as extra-terrestrials. I thought about aliens a lot since I was a kid."
