Songfacts®:

  • The song begins: "Ev-'ry cowboy has a gal." This is not the sort of lyric one would associate with the Daddy of Rock and Roll as his biographer John Swenson called him, but before he recorded "Rock Around The Clock" with his Comets, Haley was Yodelling Bill Haley fronting The Saddlemen and The Four Aces Of Western Swing. He also did a musical double act with his co-writer Jack Howard in which he played the straight man.
  • Haley recorded this song as early as 1947; he was the cowboy, and his gal was his newborn daughter Sharyn Anne. It appears to have been released first in 1951 by Curly Herdman And The Saddlemen, with Herdman on vocal and violin, and Haley - possibly - on rhythm guitar.
  • The sheet music to "Rose Of My Heart" credits Words and Music by Bill Haley & Jack Howard, and Copyright 1951 Haley-Howard Publications of Philadelphia.
  • In 2007, "Rose Of My Heart" appeared on a 4 volume CD collection Bill Haley - From Western Swing To Rock. >>>
