Songfacts®:

  • "Tractor Drivin' Man" was written by Hank Beebe and performed by Bill Shirley, the latter of whom also sang "On the Street Where You Live" for the soundtrack of My Fair Lady. The song was commissioned by the Ford Motor Company to promote a new range of tractors, and was used in a number of "industrial musicals" in the 1960s including the 1960 production The Wide New World With Ford.

These were shows that were put on for company sales staff and to promote various products, including disposable surgical gowns for which the truly bizarre song "I Never Enjoyed My Operation More" was written.

Fortunately, "Tractor Drivin' Man" is nowhere near as bad as that, and is quite passable in a purely utilitarian sort of way. >>>
