Songfacts®:

  • Billie Eilish has been publicly open about her struggles with depression. During this swelling, piano-centric song, the teenage singer imagines what would happen if her sadness got the better of her. Eilish tells her boyfriend she feels there's "no way out" so she is going to kill herself.

At the end of the song Eilish asks her boyfriend to tell her friends she loves them and will miss them. Sirens can be heard in the background, suggesting the singer has already attempted suicide.
  • This is the oldest song on the When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? album. Eilish made it with her brother Finneas back in 2016.
