Songfacts®:

  • The Cinderella referred to by Brown is Suzanne Murphy, a Limerick-born mezzo-soprano who was a member of folk-group We 4 for some time. Billy Brown was the creative mind behind The Freshmen, one of Ireland's top live bands of the '60s. >>

  • Billy Brown wrote this haunting ballad having been to see the opera Cinderella, where mezzo-soprano Suzanne Murphy played the title role. While playing sax and keyboards with The Freshmen, he had hits in Ireland with "Papa Oom Mow Mow" and "Little Old Lady From Pasadena." After "Cinderella," Billy had two solo hits with "Look What Jerry Lee Did To Me" and "You've Never Seen Anything Like It." >>
