Songfacts®:

  • "Somewhere In My Broken Heart" is a 1992 single released by Billy Dean for his Young Man album. The song, written by Dean and songwriter Richard Leigh ("Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue"), was first recorded by Randy Travis for his 1989 album No Holdin' Back. Travis' version was never released as a single.

The lyrics describe a man who is dedicated to the woman in his life, even though she wishes to move on and try to find a new love and redefine herself, hence the chorus, "So, fly, go ahead and fly until you find out who you are, and I, I will keep my love unspoken, somewhere in my broken heart." He reassures her in the bridge of the song, "I hope that in time you will find what you long for, love that's written in the stars, and when you finally do, I think you will see it's somewhere in my broken heart."
  • The song is in the key of C major and is in 2/4 meter.
  • Later in the year it was released, the song won Billy Dean an Academy of Country Music award for song of the year, as well as song of the year from the NASI. >>>
