Songfacts®:

  • The fourth single from British singer-songwriter Jasmine Van den Bogaerde, AKA Birdy's, debut album is a cover of the song by French indie rock band Phoenix. Birdy transforms the upbeat synthpop Parisian fantasy into a lovelorn ballad. It was released in the UK on February 27, 2012.
  • So why Birdy? When her parents fed Jasmine as a baby, she would open her mouth so wide that they nicknamed her 'Birdy' and the name stuck.
  • All but one of the tunes that Birdy recorded for her eponymous debut album are covers. Speaking about how she chose which songs she wanted on the album, Birdy said it was fun, but also hard work: "I'd listen to them, then decide which ones I'd try out," she said. "Usually I just sit at the piano and work out an arrangement that feels like it's my style, then I'll work with the voice. And from that, I'd choose which ones I thought would be good for the album."
