  • John Fred Young, Chris Robertson, and Jon Lawhon all met at high school. Ben Wells recalled to Artist Direct:

"John Fred, Chris, and Jon all went to school together in Edmonton, Kentucky. I grew up in Glasgow, Kentucky (about 15 miles away). I met them via a mutual friend as he knew they had been jamming music together, and knew that I played guitar and wanted to be in a band. So we met on Chris' birthday of June 4th, 2001 and started the band the very next day!"
  • Young's father Richard and his uncle Fred are founding members of the Grammy Award-winning country rock 'n' roots band The Kentucky Headhunters. Black Stone Cherry honed their craft in the Headquaters' Practice House, an abandoned property on the Young family's farmland. John Fred recalled:

"We grew up in The Kentucky Headhunters' rehearsal space, looking up at posters of Cream, Led Zeppelin, Uriah Heap The Rolling Stones, Montrose and The Faces. We were like kids someone took in a time capsule and put in the woods."
  • Chris Robertson's first guitar was an Epiphone Telecaster. He told us: "My dad took his entire paycheck and bought it for me for my 13th birthday. $220 bucks at Backstage Music."
