Songfacts®:

  • Running to 3 minutes 26 seconds, "Darkness" is the 12th track on the 2010 Autumn Sky album with music by Mr. and words by Mrs. Blackmore.

In a January 2011 interview, Candice said of this song it was "originally... a traditional melody from the Brittany area of France. We heard it when a German Renaissance band called Des Geyers rediscovered it and reinvented it as an instrumental called 'Britonish.' When we heard it, we took that melody and played it on recorders and acoustic guitars and slowed it down and it gave it a very haunting feel. Much different than the original version we heard. In writing lyrics I usually listen to the idea of the music that Ritchie has in mind..."
  • A live version appears on the A Knight In York DVD wherein it runs to 3 minutes 30 seconds. On both albums it segues into "Dance Of The Darkness" which is really only an uptempo instrumental version of the same song. >>>
