The Circle

Album: Secret Voyage (2008)

Songfacts®:

  • The circle as imagery for the passage of time is nothing new in music; "Will The Circle Be Unbroken?" is a not so contemporary example. With their interest in mysticism and days of yore, it was inevitable that Ritchie and Candice would come up with one, and what a splendid effort it is.

"The Circle" appears on the 2008 Secret Voyage album wherein it runs to 4 minutes 48 seconds, and is "okay." The live version is a different matter altogether; recorded at the Grand Opera House in York for the A Knight In York DVD, it runs to over seven and a half minutes with Candice at her magical best, full accompaniment including violin, and Ritchie Blackmore producing a blistering Stratocaster solo reminiscent of his tenure with Deep Purple Mark I. >>>
