  • Blak Emoji is Kelsey Warren, a producer and multi-instrumentalist based in New York City who grew up in New Jersey. "Last Night Lost," a track from his 2023 album Eclectro, finds him on an exciting adventure with a special someone. He explained to Songfacts:

"Eclectro was recorded during the heart of the pandemic in 2020 and 2021. During that time we couldn't really venture to many places or take full advantage of life's outside pleasures: restaurants, travel, nightlife etc... So 'Last Night Lost' is basically a visualization of the perfect night out or date. Since so much was taken away from us at the time, this track and many of Eclectro's songs focus on having a good experience, getting through the bad times and taking advantage of life's treasures. And also to be thankful. Because before you know it, all could vanish as witnessed. So now, this song serves as a template for the best night out on the town with that special someone."
  • The song got a lot of attention when Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran raved about it on his radio show WHOOOSH!

"I'm still tripping over the kind words Simon said on his show," Blak Emoji said. "I'm such a Duran freak and their music's definitely a direct influence by far. Simon's lyrics too."
  • When he appeared on the Songfacts Podcast, Blak Emoji talked about the Duran Duran influence in this song. There's a line in "Save A Prayer" where Simon says something like, 'Some people call it a one-night stand, but we can call it paradise.' In a roundabout way, that's 'Last Night Lost.' I never really thought of it, but that line is an inspiration. But I'm also inspired by things politically and things that happen in my life or other people's lives. I just love stories, and there's certain people that really know how to tell a great story. It could be Johnny Cash in country, Marvin Gaye with soul music, Bob Dylan, DeAngelo. All that comes out in my music."
