Songfacts®:

  • This is the first song released by Blake Shelton since he split from Miranda Lambert in July 2015, and hooked up with Gwen Stefani later in the year. Although the post break-up hook-up song wasn't written by Shelton (it was penned by Craig Wiseman and Deric Ruttan), it appears to more than hint at the singer's change of circumstances. "I've had a lot of music over the years but I don't think I've ever had a song before that's such a direct look into my life," said Shelton "That's why I'm so excited about this particular song."
  • Craig Wiseman and Deric Ruttan have written several Blake Shelton songs with other songwriters, including "Boys 'Round Here" and "Mine Would Be You," but this is the first they've penned together.
  • The black-and-white video features Blake Shelton nursing a broken heart and a drink in a beachside bar. We see him get friendly with a long-haired girl, who is played by the Ukrainian mixed-media artist and model Ganna Bogdan. The clip was released in conjunction with the Season 12 premiere of Discovery Channel's crab-fishing reality show, Deadliest Catch.
  • The song served as the lead single of If I'm Honest, an album where Shelton touches on both the pain of a breakup and the happiness of a new relationship. The singer told The Tennessean that he kicked off the set with this track for a reason.

"I love that it kind of has a dark feel to it, but there's a little, tiny glimmer of hope in there, too," he explained. "That's a good one to throw out there first because it touches on both subjects, going through the break up trying to forget about them and now I'm meeting the person that's helping me get there."
