  • Born and raised in the small town of Ada, Oklahoma, Blake Shelton takes pride in his country heritage. Here, he extolls the virtues of hard work.

I'm up before the sun, either hauling hay or hunting
My work ain't ever done, but son, I wouldn't trade it for nothing

And sings the praises of the rural lifestyle.

If y'all ain't in my drawl and a fish ain't on my wall
And the whiskey don't burn going down

On the chorus, Shelton declares that if he died and got the chance to be reincarnated, he probably wouldn't do it if he couldn't be country.

So when I die I wanna come back as a country boy
No, there ain't no better life if you ask me
  • This is one of four new songs Shelton recorded for the deluxe edition of Body Language. He released it as a radio single on October 1, 2021.
  • Hardy, Josh Thompson and Jordan Schmidt wrote "Come Back as a Country Boy." Though Shelton didn't contribute to the hardworking-country-folks anthem, it's right in his ballpark. Other songs the Oklahoma native has recorded where he champions his rural heritage include "Hillbilly Bone," and "God's Country." Hardy and Schmidt also wrote the latter song, along with Devin Dawson.
  • Shelton sees "Come Back As A Country Boy" as "at least a first cousin to 'God's Country.'" After firing up those country fans who listen to both Hank Williams Jr. and Lynyrd Skynyrd, he hopes to do the same with this song. "It doesn't have as much of a rock edge as 'God's Country' did," said Shelton, "but it's got the same kind of personality. It's an anthem."
  • Shelton's love for Marvel served as the inspiration for the video (he's seen every Marvel movie). "Why can't just a country guy have superpowers?" Shelton asked. "Now wouldn't that be cool if just a good ol' country boy could do things like, you know, push over a giant tree, or with just one swath of his hand, rake up an entire river up on the bank?"
