Songfacts®:

  • This dynamic power ballad finds Blake Shelton and his girlfriend Gwen Stefani vowing devotion to each other. The two officially became a couple in November 2015.
  • The romantic ode was originally written by Ross Copperman, Shane McAnally, Josh Osborne and Tommy Lee James for Blake Shelton to sing solo. However, the country star made a last-minute decision to ask Stefani to join him in the recording studio.

"This was one of those songs where the more I heard it, the more I fell in love with it. I also realized how important it is for me and where I am in my life, and I think that's why Shane was trying to get it to me," said Shelton. "It fits my story. I was about to go in and record when I decided that it needed Gwen on it - because it is our song. I think it's magic."
  • The song is Shelton and Stefani's third recorded duet. The pair previously collaborated on his "Go Ahead and Break My Heart " and a holiday tune called "You Make It Feel Like Christmas" from Stefani's album of the same name.
  • "Nobody But You" is different from "Nobody But Me," Shelton's #4 Country hit from 2005.
  • "Nobody but You" debuted at #9 on the Country chart. It was Stefani's first visit to that particular tally's Top 10; her previous best placing was the #13 that "Go Ahead and Break My Heart" reached.
  • Both songwriter Shane McAnally and Blake's producer Scott Hendricks sent Shelton the demo. The singer recalled to ABC Radio the moment he knew he had to record the tune:

"One day, I was driving with Gwen and I said, 'Hey let's listen to that song from Shane, because Scott sent it to me too - it must be pretty incredible.'"

Shelton was floored by how closely the lyrics mirrored their relationship. He said. "I realized how important that song was for me and where I am in my life right now."
  • Shelton and Stefani teamed up to perform this at the Grammy Awards in 2020.
