Songfacts®:

  • According to comedian and theater historian Roy Hudd in the Spring 1985 issue of Theatrephile, "I've Got Rings On My Fingers" was one of the first British songs to become a hit in America. Published by Francis, Day & Hunter of London in 1909, it was introduced in The Yankee Girl by Blanche Ring. The music was composed by Maurice Scott, and the words were co-written by R. P. Weston & Fred J. Barnes.

    R. P. Weston is best known his later 20-year collaboration with composer Bert Lee.
  • "I've Got Rings On My Fingers" is a novelty song of sorts, and steals a few lines from the well-known nursery rhyme Ride A Cock Horse. The song was also a hit for Ada Jones. >>>
