Songfacts®:

  • "Somebody's Child" is a soulful ballad built around a piano melody. Blessing Offor teams up with country legend Dolly Parton and a soaring vocal choir to share a powerful message of finding solace and connection through shared humanity.

"We're all 'somebody's child,'" Blessing said of the song. "It's such a simple concept, but I hope it's the beginning of us all realizing that there's always a point of empathy, there's always common ground if we want to find it. And there's no better embodiment of finding common ground, finding relatability, than Dolly Parton. I'm so honored and humbled to have her on this project."
  • Parton's collaboration with Blessing Offor isn't her first foray into Christian and Gospel music. She had recently lent her voice to projects with artists like King & Country ("God Only Knows") and Zach Williams ("There Was Jesus" and "Lookin' For You").
  • Blessing Offor co-wrote "Somebody's Child" with Joy Williams, formerly of the duo The Civil Wars, and with Josh Ronen, who also produced the track.

Chicago songwriter and producer and Berklee College of Music alumnus Josh Ronen wrote and produced Erin Kinsey's debut radio single and viral hit "Just Drive" as well as her entire EP I-40 East. His other credits include Kelly Clarkson's "Me" and Roddy Ricch's "Survivor's Remorse."
  • The accompanying music video, starring Offor and Parton, begins with Offor playing and singing at a piano. He's joined by Parton and a choir, while interspersed throughout the visual are images of children and parents in various real-life situations, both joyful and challenging.
