Songfacts®:

  • The lyrics on Blue October's seventh studio album, Sway, were penned by frontman Justin Furstenfeld in an upbeat frame of mind after conquering a crippling alcohol addiction. This song is about the main thing he learned once he got sober. Furstenfeld explained to Artist Direct: "The reason I did use and drink was because of fear. The reason I kept myself from being happy is I was scared of the outcome. In the last year and a half, I learned there's no room for 'Fear.' When I hear that song, it wraps up the last seventeen years of my life. I found what I've been looking for."
  • The final track of Sway, "To Be," was created by playing back a slowed down recording of the strings from this song.

  • Cheryl Ellis from MissouriAs a song writer I m sure you write your best when down and melancholy your music hits my very soul. The dynamics of your experiences are profound.for myself and ty, ty , ty for sharing yourself, your life challenges and the end results with the social media, fans and music lovers. You have touched many and that's is God's work through you. What an eternal gift. Music is magical and needs no language barriers nor boundaries it is universal and omnipotent. I personally share the the process of addiction and self loathing and then self love and respect and your mother even though she has passed knows your every feeling, every success and emotion and therefore her work is complete and yours has begun. You likewise myself are a work in progress. God bless your journey Don t stop what y[ur doing and your example is something your daughter will understand and be proud of her daddiesrebirth S a whole person now able to give and receive love and truth. We learn to teach others and as we teach we therefore learn more and wisdom blossoms like pollen when all conditions are right propagate aandcresteanew beautiful exisyence.
