Songfacts®:

  • Co-written by Boh and Richard Harris, the lady herself said of this song it was originally "written from the perspective of a lovelorn guy, along the lines of a love song about a woman that is manipulative and not necessarily good for the singer. I didn't imagine singing it myself but I really liked the way the song felt that I thought I'd very much like to do it for the album. So I guess I'm the lovelorn guy".
  • There is nothing at all "guy" about the elder sister of New Zealand's best selling contemporary artist, Bic Runga, but in any case, feminine wiles have never been any barrier to this sort of thing; to take just one example, Linda Ronstadt covered the Elvis Costello song "Alison" (although Costello himself didn't think much of her version).
Uptempo and commercial, the rock based "Evelyn" would not be out of place in any contemporary music fan's collection. >>>
