Songfacts®:

  • This song is about the power music has to provide comfort when everything else in your life is going wrong.
  • Bombay Bicycle Club premiered the song on Annie Mac's BBC Radio 1 show on November 27, 2019. Frontman Jack Steadman told the presenter he wrote the lyrics about how he turns to music when things are getting him down. "Basically, whenever I've gone through any anxiety, stress, or melancholy, I always just find myself putting my headphones on and instantly feel a hundred times better," the singer said.
  • The band named their fifth album after "Everything Else Has Gone Wrong" as the lyrics summarize what the record is about. Said the band on social media: "It's about finding hope, safety and comfort during times of despair, when everything is crumbling all around you."
  • I guess I found my peace again
And yes, I found my second wind

"Everything Else Has Gone Wrong" was the last song written for the record. Writing an album is a long and stressful process and the band feel they can only unwind when they reach the end. "So when we hit this song and had a sense that it might be the last piece of the puzzle, we were just so excited," Steadman explained to Apple Music. "The 'I think I've found my second wind' lyric captures that excitement, and my lack of subtlety."
