Songfacts®:

  • I never stand, I never wait
    I never walk, I levitate
    They're punching like a heavyweight
    I meditate, and t-t-t-t-t-t-take it

"Meditate" oozes effortless cool, swaggering with self-assured confidence that borders on egomania. But beneath the surface, it's more than just an ego trip. The act of meditation becomes a powerful metaphor, representing the journey of finding inner strength and navigating life's challenges.
  • The song's origins are surprisingly humble. Back in his teenage years, Bombay Bicycle Club frontman Jack Steadman churned out countless albums on his family computer. While working on the band's My Big Day album, he stumbled upon a forgotten bassline from one of those early recordings. That simple melody sparked inspiration, eventually evolving into the heart and soul of "Meditate."
  • Adding another layer of depth and attitude is the guest appearance of London indie-rock singer-songwriter Nilüfer Yanya. The collaboration came about organically, with Steadman inviting Yanya to join him on the track after a shared live performance. "I instantly thought of Nilufer as we are all huge fans of," he told The Sun. "She has that kind of vibe when she sings... very nonchalant."
