Songfacts®:

  • On "Living Proof," Jon Bon Jovi sings of resilience, hope, and facing challenges. He questions if there's still beauty and possibility in a difficult world before realizing the answer is right under his own roof.
  • Bon Jovi guitarist Phil X used a talkbox to create the odd vocal effects. Former guitarist Richie Sambora previously used the electronic device on several Bon Jovi tracks, including "Livin' On A Prayer" and "It's My Life."

"The talkbox is very much identified with us and, of course, we stole it from Peter Frampton and Joe Walsh - guilty as charged," Bon Jovi told UK newspaper The Sun. "We've used it in other songs since Livin' On A Prayer. So using it again was no harm, no foul. If Slash pulled it out for Guns N' Roses, it would be another matter."
  • Bon Jovi released "Living Proof" as the second single from their 16th album, Forever. The album is Bon Jovi's first since Jon Bon Jovi had vocal cord surgery in 2022. His recovery reignited his creative fire, leading him back to songwriting with renewed passion.
  • Jon Bon Jovi co-wrote and co-produced the song with John Shanks (Keith Urban, Sheryl Crow), who has been a key partner since producing Bon Jovi's 2005 album, Have a Nice Day. He became their touring rhythm guitarist in 2016. Shanks played guitar on all the Legendary tracks.
  • Bon Jovi released a rendition of "Living Proof" featuring Jelly Roll on September 19, 2025. This version originated from a chance meeting at the 2024 MusiCares Person of the Year Gala, where Jelly Roll performed as part of the evening honoring Jon Bon Jovi. The two musicians quickly developed a friendship following this event, which led to their collaboration on "Living Proof."
  • The Jelly Roll version of "Living Proof" was recorded for Bon Jovi's collaborative album Forever (Legendary Edition). The record reimagines every song from the original Forever album with guest collaborations from major artists, including Bruce Springsteen, Avril Lavigne and Lainey Wilson. It was born out of necessity following Jon Bon Jovi's vocal cord surgery and subsequent rehabilitation.

"I was singing well enough in the studio for the recording, but the vocal demands and rigors of touring were still out of reach for me," explained Jon Bon Jovi. "Without the ability to tour or promote an album we were all very proud of, I decided to call on some friends to help me in my time of need."
