  • Bootstraps is the stage name of Jordan Beckett, whose music is most often heard in movies and TV series - he's earned placements on Grey's Anatomy, Suits, Power Rangers and many others. "Replica" didn't get much attention when it was released on his first album in 2012, but it racked up Spotify plays when Taylor Swift included it on her "Songs Taylor Loves" playlist in 2018.

The song is about a special someone who cannot be replaced - there is no replica. It's a wonderful feeling when you're with that person, but devastating if they've left you.
  • This song has an unexpected inspiration: Dolly Parton's hit "9 to 5." In a Songfacts interview with Beckett, he said: "That song for some reason sparked an idea for me. I wrote the lyric, 'I saw no replica,' and that resonated with me and I knew what the song was. But it wasn't until that line came that I was like, 'OK, I know how to frame this song up.'"

Parton's title shows up in the lyric, "I was 9 to 5 and no part time."
  • Beckett compares the sentiment in this song to "Someone Like You" by Adele, "That idea of wanting someone you can't have anymore and holding on to that idea of who they were."

Beckett later worked in the studio where Adele recorded that song and saw her multi-Platinum certification.
