Songfacts®:

  • This song features the voice of bassist Kimberley Dahme, who has been performing with Boston since the 2002 Corporate America album and tour. Leader Tom Scholz explained her contribution to Ultimate Classic Rock: "I thought that Kimberley would sound great on 'If You Were In Love' and I wrote it because of that, for a female voice, but I had always intended to have it accompanied by harmonies that had male voices with her. But when I heard her sing the song and I heard the second verse harmonies come in, I just said, 'This couldn't possibly be any better,' so she ended up singing the thing in its entirety. So you never know."
