Songfacts®:

  • This gospel tune was the first song Brad Paisley ever sang at the age of 9. He recorded a version for his This Is Country Music album enlisting the help of bluegrass artists Marty Stuart, and Carl Jackson plus rock singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow.
  • It is believed that Eliza R Snow originally wrote the verses to "Life's Railway To Heaven." In 1918 Baptist preacher M.E. Abbey added the chorus and Charles D Tillman the music but when they filed a Copyright on the song, Eliza Snow's contribution was omitted from the document.
  • The many other country artists to have recorded this gospel song include Roy Acuff, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Willie Nelson.
