Songfacts®:

  • This is the second of two collaborations on Love and War between Brad Paisley and Timbaland; the hip-hop producer adds a modern sheen to the Nashville star's banjo-laced country jam. Paisley told ET Online: "It's such a great marriage when you see that sort of artsy, bluegrass-y acoustic thing and his world of beats."
  • Speaking with Billboard magazine, Paisley explained how he and Timbaland craft their music in two completely different ways. "Tim approaches songwriting from a way different perspective than me because I write in the traditional Nashville way, which is to sit in a room with an acoustic guitar or something, write the song and then go cut a track once the song is done," he said. "In Tim's world, they sort of are writing with every beat that gets thrown down. They are writing as it builds. They are building something almost like you build a house, whereas we like to work on the on the architectural plans for the house in Nashville. They just start hammering and they get what they get. It's awesome."
  • Speaking in an interview with Taste of Country, Timbaland revealed that he's always seen a connection between hip-hop and bluegrass music.

"The rhythms in bluegrass are almost kind of like the rhythms how I hear," he explained. "It's almost a similarity because how I hear rhythm in the colors that I see in bluegrass almost the same colors I see in hip-hop."

"It's a meaningful story in both messages," Timbaland added. "One grooves to a different beat, one grooves to another, but the message behind both of them is pain, and you get to hear the pain in each artist's voice on each genre from bluegrass to hip-hop."
