Songfacts®:

  • This guitar-fueled country song is a duet between Brad Paisley and pop singer Demi Lovato. The pair sing of a feuding couple who can't seem to stop fighting, and "both regret some of the things we said," but the make-up sex afterwards is great. "I wanted ('Without a Fight') to have that feeling of angst in a relationship," Paisley told Taste of Country Nights host Sam Alex. "Everybody goes through a period where you're fighting a lot, I think. Sometimes that can be a good thing for your relationship. That conflict can lead to making up."
  • Paisley first met Lovato at the iHeartRadio Music Awards in April 2016, where they performed her ballad "Stone Cold." The country star knew "Without a Fight" needed a female perspective, and it became clear he needed Lovato to be his duet partner. "By the time the song leads to this loud ending... it needed to be the right female voice," Paisley said.
